A MUCH-LOVED pub which closed its doors to punters last month is set to reopen under a new management.
The Plough Inn, closed in October, after its landlady Liz Jackson decided to retire aged 85.
Local duo Sam Edwards and Jak Doggett recently opened their restaurant Sam & Jak on Cricklade Street in 2021 while also running a busy catering business.
They have now decided to enter the pub game, taking on the lease of the Arkell’s Brewery pub, located just outside of the town in Stratton.
Sam, 33, and Jak, 29, have made a name for themselves in the town centre with their modern food offering, classic cocktails and theme night dining.

They are now going to try their hands at running a pub, promising classic pub dining with a smokey offering on the side.
“We cannot wait to get in there and get started,” Jak said.
“We have both always wanted a more traditional offering but we assure you it will have our style and flavour all over it.
“The garden and field that come with the venue can be used for a possible foodie or music festival in 2023.”
Sam had previously worked and trained at The Manor House in Moreton-in-Marsh.
Both have previously worked with renowned chef – Bob Parkinson of Bibendum, London, a Michelin Bib Gourmand winner.
The pair have, in the last couple of years, become fathers and both families live in Stratton.
This is something that is important to Sam, who will be designing the menus for the Arkell’s site.
He said: “Pubs are about community, and always have been, somewhere to gather with friends or family, we want to continue this tradition.
“Everyone knows The Plough and with the help of Arkell’s we hope to keep it thriving.”
The Plough will be opening on Friday, December 2 for a special launch night with all invited.
It will open officially on Monday December, 5 from 5pm, drinks only.
The kitchen will be open from Wednesday from 12pm to 3pm and 5pm to 9pm.
