Two men have been charged following a high-value burglary at a Cotswold antique shop.

Vinnie Smith, 41 of Cartwright Road in Churchdown, and Steven Agg, 33 of Moors Avenue in Cheltenham, have both been charged with one count of burglary.

This comes after multiple items of jewellery were allegedly stolen from Mickleton Antiques, on Stratford Road, last month.

Gloucestershire Constabulary has previously stated that the offenders removed an alarm system from the building before gaining entry to the shop.

The group searched the property before leaving with gold and silver items worth £100,000 on Monday, October 17.

Officers from the Cotswolds and Stroud Operation Vanguard Team made the arrests on Thursday morning (November 3) after executing warrants at addresses in Cheltenham, Churchdown, and Gloucester.

Three other people, one woman and two men, were also arrested but have since been released on police bail.

Smith and Agg were charged on Friday, November 4, and have been remanded in custody and were due to appear at Cheltenham Magistrates' Court later in the day.

Following the arrests, acting chief inspector Marcus Forbes-George from the Operation Vanguard Team said: "We've been working tirelessly since the burglary was reported to us, as brazen crimes like this will not be tolerated here in Gloucestershire.

"Crimes like these have a massive impact on victims and we will do everything we can to bring those responsible to justice.

"I'd like to thank everyone who has been involved for their hard work and dedication as our investigation continues."

Mickleton Antiques reopened following the burglary on Wednesday, October 19.

A staff member said: "Thank you so much for everyone's support, kind messages and comments.

"It means more than you will know.

"I know we haven't replied to everyone but as you can imagine it's been a very tough few days.

"We are still here, we are open and we are ready to greet our wonderful customers."
