Inside new restaurant opening on site of Harry Hares

The Gosditch Street eatery has been closed since the start of this year after St Austell Brewery decided not to renew their lease.

It will reopen as Henry’s Seafood Bar & Grill later this month and has undergone a complete makeover - as these new photos attest.

Modern art is a feature throughout as well as new furniture including oak dining tables made by local tradesmen. Work on the large garden has also begun.

The restaurant is now being run by Notorious Plates, who also run Waterside Kitchen and Bar on the Cerney Lakes and The Crown at Cerney Wick.

The opening comes as the town's hospitality sector continues to bounce back from disruption due to Covid.

Other venues to have opened in Cirencester in recent months include The Hop Kettle in The Woolmarket, La Bobina on Black Jack Street and Sam & Jak on Cricklade Street.

“Cirencester has so many great independent restaurants and bars,” said Henry's manager Tom Holland.

“In the last year Tierra and Mar won two rosettes as did The Bathurst Arms and venues like Téatro have been expanded to include the hotel - Ingleside.

“It is an interesting time for the industry with the continued rise in food and energy costs but by offering something unique we are confident we are bringing something different to the town which will make it a go-to foodie destination.”

Adam Vines, chairman of Cirencester Chamber of Commerce, added: “It’s great that Cirencester has such a thriving hospitality sector.

“The sheer number of independent restaurants and licensed premises is such a benefit to the night-time economy of the town.

“Our town centre is a great example of not having a large number of chain restaurants meaning that their profits stay local.”
