The upcoming film “Boys in the Boat” based on the 2016 best selling novel which George Clooney is directing, is currently being filmed near Cirencester, according to residents who have links with the film.
Rumours suggest that some of the actors are working on a set in the Ashton Keynes area.
It appears that some of the cast have been enjoying their time in England, with American actresses Courtney Henggeler and Hadley Robinson both posting clips of themselves enjoying the Chelsea versus West Ham game on Sunday.
The upcoming American drama film directed by George Clooney, based on the non-fiction novel will also star Callum Turner, among many others.
According to Deadline.com, on March 3, 2011, The Weinstein Company acquired the film rights to the novel with Kenneth Branagh set to direct and Donna Gigliotti and Judy Hofflund producing.
Lantern Entertainment (the successor to The Weinstein Company) signed a worldwide distribution deal with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer in October 2018. It was announced in March 2020 that George Clooney would direct and produce alongside Grant Heslov, with Mark L. Smith writing the script.
At the beginning of last month, filming officially kicked off at Winnerish Film Studios in Berkshire, according to Kemps Film TV Video, but Stage Fifty have not yet confirmed where the actors and producers might be based right now.
One of the team's main rowers was a British boatbuilder in the story and Clooney was angling for the picture to be shot on the water near his mansion in Berkshire back in December 2021.
He told Baz Bamigboye's Daily Mail newspaper column: "There's an argument that some of the sporting scenes could be filmed over here but there's a lot to discuss before we reach that point."
He added: "The river's there. Easy. If we can't film there, the crew can practice. I wouldn't have to leave the house."
According to the Seattle Times, many fans of the book had hoped it would be shot in the US, but the author of the original book, Daniel James reported to them: “It’s unlikely that very much of it, if any, will be shot here.
“My understanding is that most of it will be shot in the U.K.”
It has also been reported that Murphy Gilson, creative director of university marketing and communications at the UW, said that the studio had shared with them that “they are not planning to do principal photography in Washington.”
