Inspired by the month of love, my husband and I nipped to the Ivy Montpellier Brasserie in Cheltenham to sample their limited-edition Valentines cocktail menu- and it didn’t disappoint.
To ensure I was thorough and in the name of journalism, I tried all three of the cocktails designed specifically to inflict a little romance.
First up, to definitely put a little spice into your love life-I sampled the Oscar Wilde's Secret Affair (£9.50), incorporating Beefeater Gin, lemon juice and agave syrup – it came with an actual chilli stalk in the glass and will definitely blow your socks off. This one os for someone who like to be able to taste the actual alcohol in a cocktail. 7/10 for me.
To further get you in the mood for love the from Napoleon to Joséphine (£9.75), a sparkling serve featuring Altos Tequila Blanco, passion fruit and a splash of prosecco, was definitely milder, easier to drink and much sweeter to palate. I could have easily drunk about six of these and hopefully they will stay on the menu- perfect for a girls night also. 8/10.
The His Immortal Beloved (£9.75), inspired by Beethoven and consisting of coffee liqueur, double cream and Amaretto and this cocktail was definitely the one for me. A smooth coffee flavour balanced with the amaretto. Just a perfect yummy cocktail. An easy 9/10.
We also tried the Ivy sharing dessert- much to the dismay of my husband who orders the famous chocolate bombe every visit- but, the aesthetically pleasing Pillow Talk (£17.95), an indulgent sharing dessert featuring peach and raspberry parfait, white chocolate mousse, popping candy and a raspberry sauce was more than a match for the bomb and a shame it will only be available for a limited time.
All diners who visit the Ivy on Valentine’s day will receive an exclusive book by Shaun Usher, featuring a collection of the most passionate love letters written in history, reimagined by The Ivy Collection with a bespoke cover and foreword.
Keith Squire, General Manager at The Ivy Montpellier Brasserie, said: “We are delighted to join forces with Letters of Note in celebration of the most powerful messages of love this Valentine’s Day. We look forward to treating our guests to a copy of the book, and a menu of fanciful treats, which will pair perfectly with the much-loved favourite dishes on our menu.”
The Valentine’s Day specials are available from Friday, February 11 to Monday, February 14
