Cotswold café launches ‘Keep it Local’ discount card

People in Northleach and the surrounding parishes of Notgrove, Turkdean, Cold Aston, Compton Abdale, Farmington, Hampnett and Haselton are now entitled to 10 per cent off food and non-alcoholic drinks at The Old Prison Kitchen & Café.

The venue, run by The Relish Group, wanted to give something back to the community after enjoying two years at the historic site.

“The Old Prison is a part of Cotswold history and working with the owners, Friends of the Cotswolds, has been a real pleasure, bringing this venue back to life and building on its story and heritage,” said café manager, Charlotte Ashfield.

Formerly Northleach House of Correction, The Old Prison was built in 1792 to the designs of William Blackburn. It ceased to be used by the police and court services in the 1970s but has retained some of the authentic settings, including cells.

Heritage charity Friends of the Cotswolds took over ownership of the building in 2013, with the café opening in 2019.

“We hope our food and drink offer adds to the full experience - we work with many local suppliers whose incredible seasonal produce we hope does the venue justice," added Charlotte.

"Bramleys provide our local veggies, Jesse Smith’s butchers in Cirencester supply our meat, our free-range eggs are laid by Sherston Farm hens and the bottled juices are pressed by Bensons in our neighbouring village of Sherborne.

“It is a really exciting ‘local’ project, and The Old Prison is an incredible space that can be used for private parties, including weddings but is also ideal for coach tours and large groups.

"The Cells and Court Room are open for visitors to visit and enjoy a taste of buildings past."

The Old Prison is available for private hire and the Kitchen & Cafe serves an array of menus from Early Breakfast, Brunch, Lunch and Homemade cakes.
