Fosse Cross tip is now closed for the next few weeks.
The household recycling centre near Cirencester is closed from today (Monday, November 8) and is expected to reopen in early December.
During this time drainage works will be carried out in an attempt to prevent the lower areas of the site from flooding. Historically flooding has often meant parts of the site are unavailable.
The £165,000 project, which also includes resurfacing work, was postponed during the pandemic. Part of the work has already been carried out while the site remained partially open.
While Fosse Cross is closed, Horsley tip will be open seven-days-a-week. Other recycling centres are available in Bishop's Cleeve, Coleford, Gloucester and Shipston-on-Stour in Warwickshire.
Cllr David Gray, Gloucestershire County Council's cabinet member responsible for waste and recycling, said: “We appreciate that any closure of the Fosse Cross site, no matter how short, is an inconvenience to our customers in the Cotswolds, and for that we apologise.
"We will do everything we can to keep the closure to the absolute minimum, but to secure customer safety and to ensure the site remains fit for purpose we do need to close for this short time whilst we invest in much needed site improvements.
“To help residents over the closure period we have made the next closest recycling centre available seven days a week, instead of six, for the duration of the closure of Fosse Cross.
“We know our residents are keen recyclers and we thank them for their ongoing support to promote a Greener Gloucestershire. We look forward to welcoming residents back to our improved site as soon as possible.”
