Who can remember when most churches had a children’s Sunday school?
I fondly remember the tea parties with hymn singing and the trips to Cheddar Gorge or Weston-super-Mare.
But there was more than just jollification. Since its creation in 18th century England, some congregations have continued to follow Sunday school’s traditional form — to teach children the Bible, protecting them from becoming casualties of social sins.
Pictures today are the Salvation Army charabanc trip to Weston 1927, the SA Children in 1971 and a Kemble Sunday school trip c.1965.
