Every resident in Cirencester will receive a special discount card over the bank holiday weekend.

The My Cirencester card, which has been designed to encourage shoppers back to the town now that non-essential retail has reopened, goes live on June 1.

More than 60 businesses have now signed up, with a special offer or discount set to be available to anyone who presents their My Cirencester card.

The scheme has been set up by Cirencester Chamber of Commerce.

Vice-president David Fowles, one of the team who came up with idea, said: “What fantastic support for our idea to get customers back into the town.

“Can we say a big thank you to all of you who have signed up and encourage those who haven’t to do so very soon.

“The My Círencester card couldn’t come at a better time because even though shops have reopened, we haven’t seen shoppers return in huge numbers yet. We hope the card will help change that.

“Whether you are a business owner or a resident, we want you to support the town and use the card.”

“On behalf of the organisers and businesses in Círencester, I would like to thank the Standard for the coverage they have given us.

“From day one they have been behind the idea and their support has really helped get My Círencester off the ground.”

Once you receive your card go to mycirencester.co.uk to register it. You will then receive regular updates on the offers that are being made by businesses in the town.

Businesses already signed up include Corinium Paints, Elite Gyms and Glass Act on Love Lane industrial estate, The Barn Theatre, Círencester Sales and Lettings and Prints and Threads. Numerous shops and stall holders in the Corn Hall have also joined up.

Businesses wishing to sign up to the scheme can choose from six different packages costing from £20-|£100.
