Edwardstow Court care home in Stow-on-the-Wold organised a virtual world cruise this month.
Residents, at the care home run by the Orders of St John Care Trust (OSJCT) started their activities with a day focused on Australia before ‘disembarking’ at several points of interest on their return voyage.
Residents donned their sailor’s outfits to ‘set sail’ for Australia, where they watched a tour of Sydney Harbour and city on TV, enjoyed a themed menu and a can of Fosters.
Another ‘stop’ on the cruise was Ireland where they enjoyed traditional meals; an Irish fry up for breakfast and parsnip and potato gratin, boxty with salad and a Baileys pot for lunch.
Shirley, a resident, said: “Our Ireland cruise stop was the best day. I thoroughly enjoyed the activities, the decorations and especially the food!”
Edwardstow Court then ‘set sail’ for Italy where they enjoyed a day of all things Italian.
Residents enjoyed Italy, especially the delicious food, and took part in quizzes and discussions about the landmarks and cities they had visited over the years.
On another day, residents ‘visited’ Spain to make Sangria and enjoy traditional songs and dances, along with a Spanish quiz and art, and learn the Macarena dance.
Their resident mascot bear, Edward, even enjoyed wearing a sombrero.
Their voyage was rounded off by docking in France where residents made some cocktails and visited the Eiffel Tower.
Residents also enjoyed a cocktail making class including their favourite, a ‘Dark and Stormy’ rum cocktail.
Shirley said: “We had a very busy week on the cruise, but I was happy to dock in England to see my family and have fish and chips.”
