Cinema giant Cineworld is set to close all its screens across the UK after the last James Bond film has been pushed back until spring.
The Sunday Times reported Cineworld could shut its 128 theatres in the UK and Ireland, putting 5,500 jobs at risk.
This includes its two Swindon branches at Regent Circus and Shaw Ridge, and its branches in Yate, Gloucester and Cheltenham.
The firm is preparing to write to PM Boris Johnson and Culture Secretary Oliver Dowden to say the industry has become “unviable”, The Sunday Times reports.
No Time to Die had already been put back once earlier this year.
Jane Crowther, editor of Total Film, told The Sun on Sunday: “I’m massively surprised by this decision.
“It’s a disaster for UK cinemas and it will cost them, conservatively £50million in the short run. They’ll hope to make the money back next April but who knows how many cinemas will still be open then to show it?”
Cineworld has experienced a £1,6bn loss due to the current coronavirus pandemic.
