A Cirencester graphic designer is turning the world of employment on its head by asking applicants to his company to write their own job description.

Danny Matthews is hoping to take on at least one, possibly two, school leavers or university graduates to join his graphic design and creative content studio.

The entrepreneur, who set up Danny&co. last year after a career in financial services, says he wants to give young people the opportunity he didn’t have when he was leaving school.

“I want to provide a place where someone can say ‘this is how I want to work, what I want to work on, what I want to get paid and how much time I want to have off’,” said Danny, who runs Danny&co. from an office in South Cerney with his wife, Cal.

“This is open to people who want to get into the creative sector – whether that is written word, video or graphics – and I am asking them to write their own job spec, so the role fits around them rather than the other way around.”

As a young lad, Danny wanted to be an animator, influenced by Japanese animation.

But he ended up working in financial services, specialising in mortgages and insurance.

“When I left school, there was no support or encouragement to make ‘being creative’ a career choice, so I ended up jumping from job to job eventually ending up in financial services for ten years, running my own mortgage and insurance broker,” said Danny.

“I learned to follow my passion the hard way and now I am privileged to do what I do, creating cool stuff for amazing people and building brands I believe in.

"I have my dream job and now I want to help someone else get theirs.”
