A local Blood Bike charity who provide hospitals with a vital courier service has launched a new delivery service to help reduce the strain.
Severn Freewheelers, who provide hospitals with a vital out of hours medical courier service have just gone live with not one but two new services to help hospitals during the coronavirus pandemic.
After a call for volunteers and utilising existing hospital volunteers, Severn Freewheelers can now offer a vital service to hospital pharmacies by delivering essential medication, including cancer treatment drugs, to patient homes.
This service runs every day.
In addition to that, Severn Freewheelers mustered their own riders to man a full daytime service giving the NHS access to their service around the clock.
Gordon Downie, a founding trustee of the charity said: “We pulled out all the stops and in record time, achieved something we never thought possible.
"A marvellous example of our own members and the public coming together to help in times of crisis”
