Tawny Owl 2
Ashton Keynes 3
ASHTON came out victorious in this top-of-the-table clash, despite Tawny Owl's remarkable winning streak of 43 league games, winning the division and league cup for the past two seasons.
Ashton were quickly out of the blocks and put Tawny Owl under pressure from the outset. They opened the scoring when a Chris Robinson cross found Nick Gregory who headed the ball down to strike partner Steve Andrews. His initial shot was blocked by two defenders but he made no mistake, firing his second attempt into the roof of the net.
The game was played at a high tempo with chances for both sides, and Tawny Owl equalised after Ashton failed to clear their lines.
However, Ashton went ahead shortly after when Chris Field picked out Nick Gregory who hit a volley into the top corner via a deflection.
And Ashton went 3-1 up shortly after the break with a well-worked attack: Ben Anderson linking up with Barnaby Chadwick, who fed Nick Gregory who hit a low cross and Steve Andrews converted from close range.
Tawny Owl battled hard and got a goal back but Ashton showed real resolve and strength to claim all three points. A mention to Brad James who was outstanding in goal and made two crucial saves in the final five minutes and Mike Blackwell who worked tirelessly in centre midfield.
A fantastic team performance, Ashton now prepares for the Wiltshire Junior Cup fixture on Saturday where they host D I United from the Trowbridge Premier Division.
