ROVERS moved to within four points of the play-off places thanks to an impressive victory at AFC Wimbledon on Saturday.
We got off to an incredible start by taking the lead after just 11 seconds. Ellis Harrison marked his return from injury to be handed a place in the starting line-up and headed a cross into the path of Byron Moore.
The on-loan winger struck with accuracy and force to plant the ball into the corner of the net to give the Pirates an early lead.
Moore has received mixed reviews during his time at Rovers, but he can claim the title of having scored our fastest-ever league goal.
We knew there would be spells in which we would have to hold firm as the Dons tried to get back into the game but our defence could not be breached.
On the rare occasions their strikers found a way through, goalkeeper Lumley was there to thwart them. He pulled off one brilliant save as the hosts dominated spells of the contest and piled on the pressure.
The Dons had 15 shots compared to our seven but we held firm after that extraordinary start with a tenacious and determined performance to claim all three points.
The win meant we climbed to eighth place and have reached 63 points, our highest total in League One for 17 years. With Millwall drawing and Southend losing, it also raised hopes that we could still make a late charge for the play-offs as other results went our way.
It is still a tall order as we would probably have to win all four of our remaining games, whilst hoping others slip up again, but the fact that we are still in the reckoning at this stage in the season highlights the magnificent job that Darrell Clarke and his team are doing at the club.
The bank holiday fixtures over Easter will be key to our chances as we will need to gain maximum points from the trip to Gillingham on Good Friday and the home encounter with Oldham on Easter Monday.
