LARRY Smith was honoured by the town of Fairford last week as he picked up the Fairford Citizen of the Year Award.
He was given the award at the town's annual meeting last Friday for his work co-ordinating the first responder scheme and making sure kits are available to all responders.
Town Mayor Chris Roberts said: "Thanks to his efforts there are now 23 active first responders and 12 emergency kits covering Fairford, Kempsford, Southrop, Lechlade, Eastleach, Coln St Aldwyns, Quenington and Hatherop.
Larry said: "I didn't expect to win at all to be honest. There were eight nominations and I presumed there would be a lot more harder working people than me."
On Saturday Larry also completed a parachute jump to help fund the extension to Fairford Playgroup. He is hoping to raise £1,000.
"It was a bit hair raising when they kick you out of the door at 12,000 feet but it was brilliant. I'd definetely do it again."
As part of his Citizen of the Year Award he received a £100 gift voucher from the town council which he can spend anywhere in Fairford.
He added: "I'm going to give it to Coln House Community Garden Project as they are struggling for funds at the moment."
