EVERY four days someone is arrested and charged in Gloucestershire as a result of the Crimestoppers hotline.

Gloucestershire crimestoppers recorded the highest annual number of arrests since the scheme started in 1995.

The anonymous hotline received a total of 894 calls this year.

The public's intolerance to drug-related crime is clear as a staggering 38 percent of the calls were connected to this.

Gloucestershire board chairman Jamie Eykyn said: "As over a third of all calls to Crimestoppers in Gloucestershire relate to drugs, for this year, we have made drugs the main emphasis of our campaign Drug Dealers Don't Care- Do You?"

He said: "So far the quality of information forthcoming has been excellent."

Vice chairman of Gloucestershire Crimestoppers Darren Stevens said: "We must not overlook the fact that 894 members of the public took the time to call the Crimestoppers number and pass information on crime, which they might not have given otherwise.

"These people deserve thanks as they are a silent army joining the police in the fight against crime in Gloucestershire."

Crimestoppers has been available in the county for over 11 years and during this time Gloucestershire police have made 903 arrests and recovered over £650,000 worth of stolen goods and drugs.

The Crimestoppers number is 0800 555 111.
