A MOTORCYCLIST has died on a notoriously dangerous Cotswold road, advertised on a bikers website, after he collided with a car.

The rider of a grey Suzuki motorbike, a 49-year-old from Cheltenham, was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after the accident on the A435 between Rendcomb and Colesbourne at around 1.15pm.

The driver of the blue Audi A4 estate was uninjured during the crash.

A section of the road was closed for several hours while police carried out investigations.

The A435 is featured on an internet website for motorbikes as some riders claim they can reach speeds of up to 100mph.

Cllr Sue Herdman, district councillor for Churn Valley which covers the A435, said: "We have had enormous problems with motorbikes going through.

"They don't take much notice of the 50mph limit. We have talked to the police about it and they have gone out there in the past but there is not much that can be done about it.

"I was in North Cerney on Sunday and I must have seen about ten motorbikes come roaring through. However, there is nothing to say this particular motorbike wasn't only doing 40mph."

Anyone who witnessed the crash, who hasn't already spoken to police, is asked to contact PC Parr of the Road Policing Unit on 0845 090 1234.
