CIRENCESTER'S Eddie Leather has been nominated for the British Gas Business Hero Award in recognition of his support to the town's football club.

British Gas is making the award in support of its sponsorship of the Southern Football League, which Cirencester Town Football Club plays in.

British Gas is seeking the most dedicated, loyal and supportive "heroes" among the league's 66 clubs.

David Bougen nominated Eddie, who looks after the Centurions' kit, through the website www.southern-football-league.co.uk

David said: "Eddie Leather, of Cirencester F.C., is our hero.

"The list of jobs that he does is tiresome and endless and he does them all religiously with no days off. He's a gem."

Eddie has also been known to cover the bar and ensure refreshments are in the dressing rooms.

Eddie: "I've always loved football. It's just nice to be involved with football and get paid for it.

"I'd feel absolutely brilliant if I won the award. It's quite an honour for somebody to put me up for it."

A British Gas spokesperson said: "British Gas Business knows that it's often unsung heroes, like Eddie, who really do make a difference to every aspect of club life.

"With other clubs now nominating their own heroes, it's time for The Centurions' supporters to get behind Eddie and register their support for his nomination at www.southern-football-league.com

"If there are more unsung heroes at Cirencester Football Club, why not nominate them too?"
