THREE of Malmesbury's boxers progressed to the Junior ABA Western Counties finals but only Sam Jenner had to box at the Northern Division stage at Dursley.
Joe Hughes and Dan Williamson received walkovers in the absence of any entries in their respective weight classes.
Jenner faced Penhill's Adam Goddard who boasted an impressive record of ten wins from 13 contests but it was Jenner's experience and determination that swung the decision in his favour.
Although the Malmesbury boy was guilty of staying too close to his shorter opponent, he was always edging the close-quarter exchanges.
In a supporting bout, Sam Main repeated a win over Synwell's Billy Aldridge.
This win was more impressive than his earlier victory and Main's footwork and combination punching took him to a clear points victory.
The next round saw Dan Williamson progress to the National quarterfinals at St Just, Cornwall, by winning the Western Counties Junior ABA final with an emphatic points victory over Devonport's Howard Hart.
Williamson's double jab held the key to his success and kept him in control of the fight for the entire contest.
Hart never had an opportunity to mount a significant attack as Williamson's improved fitness and determination allowed him to sustain a high work-rate throughout the three rounds to earn the judges' scores of 16-4, 12-4 and 14-5.
Williamson, along with club mates Joe Hughes and Sam Jenner, will face the Tyne Tees and Eastern Counties winners in the quarterfinals on Saturday, April 14. Hughes and Jenner received walkovers at the Western Counties finals.
