POLICE are appealing for witnesses to a collision close to Birdwood on Saturday, December 14 to come forward.
A white Vauxhall Combo van and a white Fiat 500 were involved in a head-on collision on the A40 close to the King's Head pub at about 7.20pm.
A man who was a passenger in the Fiat was taken to Frenchay Hospital in a life threatening condition.
Yesterday his condition was described as critical.
Three other people in the vehicles were less seriously injured.
The road was closed for four hours while a collision investigation took place.
Anyone who witnessed the crash but hasn't spoken to police should call 101, quoting incident 426 of December 14 and ask to speak to Sergeant Tim Jones (extension 7034) from the roads policing unit.
