THE body of a man was found yesterday afternoon (Wednesday) in the canal in Devizes between London Road and The Wharf.

Shortly before 3pm police were called and officers quickly pulled the man, believed to be in his 50's, from the water. Resusitation was attempted but he was declared dead a short time later.

Police currently remain on the scene as enquiries continue and a section of the foot path remains cordoned off at this time.

His death is not being treated as suspicious.

Next of kin have been informed and a file will now be prepared for HM Coroner for Swindon & Wiltshire for inquest proceedings to begin.
