READ Douglas M.B.E Formerly of Bampton. Passed away peacefully on 11th February aged 92 years. Much loved Husband of the late Sally. Devoted Father, Grand Father and Great Grand Father who will be sadly missed by all. Funeral Service to be held at St Marys Church, Bampton on 1st March at 2:30pm. All enquiries to E. To Douglas Read’s family I wish to offer my condolences on his passing, I never had the opportunity to meet him in person but learned of him through my interest in ploughing through watching his instructional DVDs and the 2007 You Tube video of the FFF&B Ploughing Match. I’ve learned his poem “The Thoughts of a Ploughman” and admired his very English Gentleman personality. Maybe he rest in peace. John Sweeney, Tyrrellspass, Ireland.

Your dear father holds a special place in my heart. I feel very privileged to have known him & will treasure many fond memories of him & his wonderful stories.
May he now be at peace with Sally, undoubtedly causing havoc & much laughter.
