I was so saddened to hear of Derek's passing recently. When Chrissie and I worked at Sanders Brickwood, my abiding memory of him is of his great sense of humour and of being a generally likeable man. My thoughts and sincere condolences to Chrissie and your family on your sad loss.
Much love from Susan Irving

It is with great sadness that I have just heard of Derek's passing earlier this month. My name is Phil Wormald and I used to live in Chesterton Grove, where I first met Derek. I also worked with him at the Addo machine company in Love Lane between 1963 & 1967. We spent a lot of time together outside of work, had some great & happy times. The main thing I remember was his infectious joyfulness and he was always the life and soul of any gathering.
In 1967 I moved jobs to the EKCO manufacturing company in Malmesbury, although still living with my father in Chesterton Grove. Derek & I remained close friends, and in 1968 I met a girl at EKCO named Heather, who on the 10th August 1968, I married at Malmesbury Abbey. Derek was my best Man!
Nobody could have been better.
Following my marriage, I moved to live in Malmesbury, close to the factory. Being newly married luxuries such as a car were not possible and before long children came on the scene and as with most young couples then, nights out were few and infrequent. I did meet up on one or two occasions with Derek but In 1983 we moved to Maidenhead (by then with 3 boys) and I therefore lost touch with Derek. Over the years I did enquire of my Brother & Sister, who still live in Gloucestershire of news of Derek and wish I had had the oppotunity to continue our friendship. My sincere condolences go to Derek's wife and family at this very sad time.
Heather and I are still living in Midenhead and I am attaching a photo of of us with Derek after our wedding.
All our love Phil & Heather.
