FORMER starlet Jamie Edge, who has been signed previously by both Arsene Wenger and Roy Hodgson, is expected to start training with Cirencester Town tomorrow night.

Gloucester-born Edge signed a reported £100,000 deal with the Gunners when a 15-year-old in 2009, having been talent-spotted at the Cheltenham Town youth set-up.

He featured regularly in the U18s Arsenal side run by Steve Bould, now Wenger’s right hand man, before moving on to West Brom under Hodgson two years later.

He subsequently spent a season playing for the Nike Football Acadamy at Loughborough University and then joined Gloucester City earlier this year.

Town boss Brian Hughes said: “Jamie has been released by Gloucester and is at a low ebb with his football at the moment. He has also lost a grandparent this week.

“He knows Kevin Willetts (Hughes’s assistant) really well, having worked with him in the past.

“He’s such a nice lad and has come for some advice on where he can go next.

“There is an open door here and we have said he can come and join in training and get put a smile back.

“With his CV, he is never going to be here long term, but he does need to be playing some football.”
