  • KEMPSFORD Football Club training and games continue on the School Field every Wednesday from 6pm-7.30pm. Open to all boys and girls aged 6 to 13. A separate activity is included for those who do not wish to play football. Refreshments provided.
  • BOUNDARY Walk on Sunday, May 8 starting at 10.30am from Kempsford Church. Everyone is welcome to join in walking the bounds of the Parish of Kempsford, Whelford, Dunfield and Dudgrove.
  • CRICKET Club's fixture this Sunday, April 24 is a home match against The Journeymen starting at 2pm. The Cricket Club Ground is located behind The George Public House.

  • CHURCH Service this Sunday, April 24 is Holy Communion 10am at St Mary's Kempsford led by Revd Curwen Rawlinson.
  • COMMUNITY First Responders (CFR) are volunteers trained to attend medical emergencies where it might be essential for the patient to receive immediate life-saving care. No previous medical training is needed to become a CFR. CFRs are an integral part of the local Ambulance Service. The next course is being arranged for June 11-12 and June 18-19, with applications having to be made in April, interviews from May 24-26 and an aim that those attending the course will “go live” in August. The local group, which covers an area from Lechlade through Fairford to Kempsford, meets monthly. To find out more contact Stephen Andrews at andrews@binternet.com or call 07795 915902; or David Chapman at davidchapman999@gmail.com or call 01367 850454.

  • DUE to personal commitments, three members of the committee managing TS Raleigh, the Navy and Marine Unit for boys and girls aged 8-18 years, have had to stand down. Would anyone like to help out on the committee with only one meeting to attend per month? Two committee members and a treasurer are needed. You don’t have to be at the weekly unit sessions with the cadets, just help with managing the running of the unit with planning events, fundraising, general management. If you would like to be involved please call Chris Roberts on 01285 712150 or email chris@cotswoldwireless.co.uk. 
  • THE next meeting of Fairford & Lechlade Business Club will be the AGM on Friday, April 22 at The Swan at Southrop (not Thyme as previously advertised) starting at 7.30pm.   • THERE will be a curry night at Khushi’s Indian Restaurant in Lechlade on Tuesday, April 26 at 7.30pm in aid of the League of Friends of Fairford Hospital.   • THE 50th AGM of the Fairford Preservation Trust will be on Thursday, April 28 at 7.15pm in Fairford Community Centre. The meeting will see the merger of the Fairford Preservation Trust with Fairford Planning Watch and Fairford Environmental Society to form Fairford Community Voice. After the business of the meeting, there will be a talk on “Wild about Fairford” by Jenny Phelps from Wild and Andrew Western from Thames Water.   • FAIRFORD Town Council is asking businesses and residents in the Market Place and High Street to help towards brightening up the town centre by having a few more floral displays outside their premises. It would be great if our town centre could be blooming marvellous this year with more floral attractions such as a window box or a planted tub or some hanging baskets. If you can help with this initiative, the Town Council will award the owner of the best display with a £100 voucher to be used at Lechlade Garden Centre. The displays will be judged at the end of August 2016 and the business or home with the best display, in the opinion of an independent judge, will win the voucher. To find out more, please contact the Town Council on 01285 7121344.
  • FAIRFORD Festival would like to celebrate Fairford’s young people and are inviting nominations from schools, community groups and the general public to find out who these young people are that really go the extra mile to make a difference to the town. It could be someone who is always there to help out, who helps to keep Fairford looking tidy, who has overcome a hurdle in life, or has helped others to do so, or any other reason. Nominees will be invited to meet with the Festival Committee and deliver a short presentation about their achievements. All nominees receive a certificate. The winners will be invited to lead the Festival Parade on Saturday, June 4 and will be presented with a certificate and a medal. Nominees must be school age and live in Fairford. Nominations can be made in writing or by email and should be received by Sunday, May 1. To make a nomination, please contact web@fairfordfestival.org.uk and tell us the reason for your nomination, the name and age of the person you’ve nominated and also include your name and contact details.

  • BOWMOOR Sailing Club at Coln Park Lake, Fairford Road, Lechlade GL7 3DT will be holding another ‘Come and Try Day’ on Saturday, April 23 from 10.30am-3pm. Competent Bowmoor helms will be on hand to take potential new members out on the lake.   • THE annual general meeting of the Lechlade branch of the British Heart Foundation will take place on Tuesday, April 26 in the Clarke Pierce room of the Memorial Hall in Lechlade. Wine, soft drinks and nibbles from 7pm and the meeting will begin at 7.30pm. The guest speaker is Dr Michael Colley, Fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists and Consultant Clinical Pathologist at the Great Western Hospital, Swindon. The topic is What blood tests tell us. Dr Colley is also a member of the Magic Circle so there might be some tricks. All welcome. No charge.
  • LECHLADE Art Society has a Monday morning group each week to pursue art work . The group have an impressive exhibition of over 50 pictures in the Coleshill Village Gallery shop and café. The exhibition will last throughout the month of April. Admission is free. 
  • THE police will be at the usual place, at the back of the pavilion on Saturday, April 23 from 3-4pm and again on Thursday, April 28 from 6-7pm.
  • ONE of America’s most distinguished musicians, the cellist Guy Fishman, comes for a special concert at noon on Friday, May 20 in St Lawrence Church. Guy is the Principal Cellist of the Handel & Haydn Society of Boston, the oldest US orchestra. The concert comes in our popular Serenade and Sandwiches series raising money for church restoration, which means free entry, wine and light refreshments then, after a chance to talk to Guy over that lunch, we seek donations.
