A FAIRFORD anti-war protestor was demonstrating at RAF Fairford this week as part of a global campaign to free US soldier Bradley Manning.
Siobhan Winter-Smith, 59, said she hoped her protest at the base, which was used for US Air Force B-52s during the 2003 Iraq war, would raise awareness for “an innocent man who could get the death penalty for doing the right thing.”
PFC Bradley Manning was arrested in Iraq in 2010 and faces court martial for allegedly passing on classified material to the whistleblower website, WikiLeaks.
Ms Winter-Smith, who joined the large-scale peace protests at RAF Fairford in 2003, said: “He’s been charged with aiding the enemy, but if aiding the enemy means telling the truth about war crimes then God help us all.”
The former Wiltshire probation services officer said she would continue to fight for PFC Manning’s freedom and against all acts of war.
