TWO people died following a heart attack at this year’s Royal International Air Tattoo.

The men, neither of whom was from the Cotswolds, died at last weekend’s air show in Fairford which attracted more than 150,000 visitors.

At approximately 3.20pm medical staff were called to reports that a man had collapsed. The man, believed to be in his 50’s and from Swindon, died a short while later.

A man from Kent also died at the event. Both are believed to have suffered heart attacks.

The next of kin of both men and the coroner have been informed.

A RIAT spokesman said: "We were extremely saddened to learn about the two deaths and our condolences go out to the families of the two gentlemen."

Sara Hall, senior medical officer at the event, said 198 visitors were treated for minor injuries ranging from falls to blisters. First aid posts handled three-quarters of the incidents, with 39 people treated at a main medical centre.

Barry Scott, RIAT's senior fire officer, said there were six minor incidents which fire crews were on standby for but needed to take no action.

These included two aircraft which suffered hydraulic problems and a small grass fire caused by the Tornado demonstration.
