AFTER five years languishing in a Japanese jail, and a further six months in Wandsworth Prison, Cirencester’s Nick Baker has made an emotional return home.
Delighted mum Iris had been trying to keep her son’s early release under wraps while he got used to life back in Britain, until MP Geoffrey Clifton-Brown, who has championed Nick’s cause, spilt the beans.
Nick is still coming to terms with how things have changed since he had been away and was unwilling to speak yet.
Iris explained he was undergoing counselling and was still in shock.
"I was expecting him to get early release at the end of this month but I had a phone call from him a couple of weeks ago to say he was coming home," she said.
"He had a lot of reports done before he saw the parole board which released him on licence. It was all a wonderful shock."
