- FOLLOWING on from the shocking news of the Cotswold volunteers going into liquidation and closing on April 15, many elderly and vulnerable were firstly concerned over the loss of community transport, which thankfully another company has taken over. The day centres were next hit, with no funding for staff or insurance. Penny Williams who runs the Wednesday and Friday clubs came to the last Tetbury Town Council meeting and informed of the plight of the people who depend on this lifeline. The town council agreed to support as much as they could and organised a crisis meeting for the next day. At this meeting there was agreed that a new organisation/charity should be set up to oversee the day centres in Tetbury and obtain finances for them. This will take time, but the council instantly donated the finance for insurance for these day centres. Work began contacting groups organisations and businesses to assist in the funding not only for the short-term time but for a long-term project as well. Businesses have come forward and promised to assist, but it is the long-term future which poses the greatest challenge. A meeting will be convened shortly to try and set up a new organisation/charity to ensure the elderly have a future. If you have any ideas, like to get involved or even donate money please contact Penny Williams, c/o Tetbury Town Council, 63 Long Street, Tetbury.
