THE first Humboldt penguin egg for 2015 has been laid at Birdland in Bourton-on-the-Water and keepers are excited for more to come.
New arrivals have been busy laying at the bird park in the north Cotswolds and also new partnerships have been made.
Keepers at Birdland have recently installed new nesting sites for the penguins and were pleased to announce that Milly had laid the first Humboldt egg of this year.
Head keeper Alistair Keen said: "Milly is not yet incubating the egg and so we are expecting a second egg to soon follow. Milly has paired with Neville for the first time, so whilst her eggs previously have been infertile we are hoping that her new mate will provide a fertile egg."
Another penguin Luna has also laid her first ever egg. She paired up with Hagrid and they are both sitting on the nest getting ready to be parents.
Humboldts incubate their eggs for approximately 40 days, with both male and female parents taking turns to sit on the nest.
Visitors can meet the Humboldt penguins, as well as the King Penguins during a trip to the park. Birdland is home to a King Penguin Chick and the only breeding colony of King Penguins.
