A NEW contemporary sculpture by a Cotswold artist has made itself at home in Brewery Court in Cirencester.
“Paintpots” by Sophie Ryder is a six foot bronze sculpture featuring mystical creatures called ‘lady-hares’ with three lurcher dogs.
Sponsored collaboratively by New Brewery Arts, Wildmoor Properties and Wetpaint Gallery, the piece is on loan from the artist and will be outside Waterstones and Costa Coffee for a year.
“I am really pleased to have this piece here in Cirencester,” said artist Sophie. “It’ll be here for a year but hopefully a fund will be set up to buy it. The thing about this piece is you can see it from every angle. It doesn’t dominate the area.”
A similar fund raising initiative was set up in Cheltenham in 1997 for the purchase of ‘The Minotaur and the Hare’ a piece by Sophie which is now on permanent display on the Promenade.
