GOLF: Cowell triumphs in County Medal

SCORING proved surprisingly difficult in near-perfect conditions for the Cirencester Golf Club County Medal competition on Sunday.

No competitor in Division One could improve on a nett 71 score.

David Cowell came in first with a score of 80, playing off 9.

He beat Alex Hall (81-10) and Rob Worthington (79-8) on the back nine holes.

In Division Two, James Collingwood had a fine nett 67, playing off 14 and James Smith won Division Three with a score of 85 nett 69.

Division 1: David Cowell (9) 80 nett 71, Alex Hall (10) 81 nett 71, Rob Worthington (8) 79 nett 71.

Division 2: James Collingwood (14) 81 nett 67, John Pugh (15) 85 nett 70, Ian Saner (14) 85 nett 71.

Division 3: James Smith (16) 85 nett 69, Steve Scott-Smith (25) 95 nett 70, David Bamford (19) 89 nett 70.
